ABOUT P.A.L.S.
It’s not just a hobby– it’s a post apocalyptic life skill!
Post Apocalyptic Life Skills (P.A.L.S.) is the craftivism “thread” of Yarnies 541– it began after members of Yarnies organized a successful “ICE OUT” Protest, and we saw that crafters wanted more ways to be active in our community both politically and creatively. Our goal with P.A.L.S. is to create opportunities for people to be involved in craftivism, through organizing events, fundraisers, and collective projects that engage with movements that are close to us. If you are looking for collective action and communal projects, you are in the right place. With P.A.L.S., we hope to create a lasting impact beyond the fiber community. Together we can imagine and create a better future, one stitch at a time.
What is Craftivism?
Craftivism is a public display of craft as a medium of peaceful protest that promotes community engagement. Through collective action, we demonstrate our ability to organize and gather over shared values, while bringing visibility to the unseen labor of craft. Although the term “craftivism” as a portmanteaux of “craft” and “activism” is relatively new, the concept of craft as activism has a rich history. From the AIDS Memorial Quilt to the Pink Pussy Hat movement, craftivism remains a valid and recognizable mode of activism.

“Imagi-Knit New Futures” Protest Banner
It’s easy to get caught up in the things we don’t like about our current world, and sometimes we forget to dream of a better future. Our “Imagi-Knit New Futures” kits will guide you through the process of imagining a positive and hopeful future that you can then infuse into your yarn. Crafters are welcome to knit or crochet their own yarn or hand them off to a PAL to be made into 6 inch squares. Squares will be incorporated with messages of a hopeful future into a banner that we will display at the March 28th 2026 “No Kings” protest.
