Happy Crafty New Year!

Happy Crafty New Year Yarnies! Here’s hoping the Holidays were kind to everyone, and you all had time to craft for fun, not just for gifts.

Speaking of gifts… The Yarnies541 Holiday Gift Bingo ENDS FRIDAY JANUARY 3rd AT MIDNIGHT! Get your bingo card pictures submitted on our Discord channel under “Yarnies-Bingo” or tag @Yarnies541 on instagram with an image of your completed card. If you don’t have any social media you can email a picture of your bingo card to yarnies541@gmail.com. We would love to see pictures of your finished gifts/projects if you were lucky enough to get them!

We raised $235.90 total after processing fees which means we will be donating $188.72 (80% of the bingo proceeds) directly to Food for Lane County. Our local food bank magically turns each dollar into two dollars to help care for our community. And by magically, we mean with a ton of hard work and lots of heart! Learn more about our local food bank here: https://www.foodforlanecounty.org/

We hope to make the Holiday Gift Bingo an annual event and continue to fundraise toward community care. Wait until you see the gift bags this year, our community was very generous!

In other news: THE BIG FLEECE is happening on Sunday, January 19th at 6pm (location TBD, likely Growers Market again, waiting on confirmation. We will send out the location when we have confirmed). This is a fun, gift exchange (think white elephant style) with items FROM YOUR STASH only! Scope out your stash as you’re finishing your holiday crafts for something to bring for swapping (swap gifts must come from stash/be fiber craft related. Does NOT have to be full skeins! Swap gifts can be many things! Partial skeins, a whole bag of scraps for a great scrap project, books, patterns, tools and notions, etc. even a project on the needles/hook that you no longer want to finish. The possibilities are vast!). This is a great way to pass along once loved (or not!) stash, send it to a new home, and have many laughs in the process. This was a big hit last year and we’re really looking forward to it again!

The Big Fleece falls on the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday weekend this year, so if you’re around, please wrap up some stash stuff and come hang out with us at 6pm on January 19th, this will directly follow our January business meeting, where all are welcome to attend. If anyone would like to send their favorite local groups doing Anti-Racism work, please email the names/websites of those groups to yarnies541@gmail.com and we can share with our members for ideas of where to give funds/get involved.

We had a great time watching the movie “Red One” in the theater last month together and seeing the Santa hats designed by some “local” (local to Oregon!) designers Lee Meredith and Jessica Spiegel. Such great craft work! Hat patterns are available on Ravelry if you’re interested:

Meetup on Tuesday, January 7th will be at Whirled Pies around 5:30 pm (located at 199 W. 8th Ave in Eugene).

And on the second Tuesday of the month (January 14th around 5:30 pm) we’ll be at Roaring Rapids pizza to celebrate the January Member Birthdays! Pizza, food, salad bar, etc. available to purchase. We are contemplating having a low-key member birthday recognition on the 2nd Tuesday of the month going forward, and to include group pictures at the carousel for laughs!

Here’s to another year with Yarnies541 and Crafting-Community-Care. Best to all of you in the New Year, see you soon in the community!
