Hey Yarnies! It was great to see so many of us out on Friday at BeerGarden (Thanks again Dana for the push to get together!). In these times it is clear that we really need each other more than ever.

Tuesday November 12th meetup at Public House (418 ‘A’ St. in Springfield) from 5:30 to around 7-8pm. We’ll be able to collect food to donate to Food for Lane County at the Tuesday meetup as well (see below for list of most needed foods).

Business meeting at Growers Market on Sunday, November 17th at 5pm. Potluck Theme: Side Quest (thank you Jenna!). Please feel free to bring your favorite side dish to share! Check out the discord group for potluck sign ups.

We’ll be collecting food as well as funds to donate directly to Food for Lane County.

From the website: https://www.foodforlanecounty.org/ the most needed foods are:

  • High-protein, shelf-stable foods such as canned meats and fish, nuts, peanut butter, jerky and lentils
  • Low-sugar dried fruit, apple sauce and canned fruit without syrup
  • Pasta, brown rice, cereal, corn meal, baking mixes and flour
  • Breakfast foods such as cereal, oatmeal, granola, granola bars, protein bars, protein shakes and coffee
  • Shelf-stable milk and milk alternatives such as oat milk, almond milk and soy milk
  • Cooking oils, spices and condiments
  • Masa, mole, chiles and other specialty spices
  • Canned vegetables and beans
  • Canned tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce and spaghetti sauce
  • Easily prepared or already prepared foods such as soups, chilis, stews and mac n cheese.

In other news: We are attempting to compile community support/mutual aid information to share on the website. I know the list is long and far reaching here in the Eugene/Springfield area. So let us know what we should include! If you want to help out with this page, please email Yarnies541@gmail.com with the group name, website (or whatever is used to connect), and the mission of the group. We don’t want to recreate the wheel, but we do want an easy-to-access place for folks to be able to start to learn more about how to get involved. Thanks so much everyone!

Very exciting news coming soon! Be on the lookout for a new local yarn shop opening in the near-ish future! More info will be sent out when we have more details.

Keep sharing your projects and inspiration with us on Discord, instagram and Facebook! We love seeing what everyone is doing and in the run up to winter, so much great stuff is being made!

Cerulean Orchid is doing their quarterly WIPbingo, ends November 30th. learn more here: https://www.ceruleanorchid.com

The Knitty.com Clapotisfest is still going strong, entries must be received by Dec. 6th, specific rules for how to enter here: https://knitty.com/ISSUEdf24/clapotisfest.php

AND there is a Stripealong2024 happening! ends Dec 31st. On Ravelry: AlwaysYarnFirst, on Facebook: Happy Little Yarn, and on Instagram #StripeAlong2024 with @JessalynJanice.

Please let us know what make alongs you hear about or are participating in! Maybe we could coordinate a MakeAlong soon. Or even better, after the holidays? Ideas welcome!

Finally, I continue to be uplifted and amazed at the generosity and care of the INCREDIBLE members of the Yarnies541. We’re so fortunate to be near many other groups doing the good work of building community in many ways also.

Hope to see many of you at the Side Quest on Sunday, November 17th!

In Gratitude & Admiration,

-Arminda
